An employer may terminate an at-will employee at any time with or without cause and with or without advance notice, as long as the reason for the termination is not prohibited by law.
A successful termination should be based on the employee’s performance as it relates to recognized performance standards of the particular industry or job. Unless an egregious offense has been committed, the termination procedure should be implemented the same with all employees irrespective of race, color, sex (including pregnancy), religion, national origin, age (40 or older), or disability.
